The Women's Resource Center of Northern Michigan is a nonprofit, community-based organization that serves women and families of northern Michigan. Established in 1977, its counseling program is approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. The organization offers a special program that assists displaced homemakers in finding employment. The Women's Resource Center of Northern Michigan also offers a six-week parenting program that uses books, videos and role plays to help parents communicate effectively with their children. It offers the Project FREE program for 4-year-old children to prepare for entry into kindergarten. In addition, the program encourages parents to become actively involved in their child's education. The organization provides counseling services for personal issues and marital problems. The Women's Resource Center of Northern Michigan provides shelter and support to victims of domestic violence and substance abuse. It maintains a location in Cheboygan, Mich.
