West Michigan Environmental Action Council ( WMEAC ) is a non-profit, 501C3 organization working to protect and enhance West Michigan's natural and human environments by translating the concerns of people into positive action. WMEAC has been delivering environmental education and advocacy to the West Michigan community for nearly forty years. Since 1968, WMEAC has served as West Michigan's leading voice for environmental protection. WMEAC is committed to empowering West Michigan's citizens, businesses, institutions and organizations with the tools they need to become better stewards of our environment. WMEAC is located in the East Hills neighborhood in Grand Rapids. We are housed in a building that was recognized by the US Green Building Council ( www.usgbc.org ) as the first double-gold LEED certified building in the United States. Our office space serves as a demonstration site for green building practices, sustainable interior design, energy efficiency and stormwater management. Our office space has an ecological footprint 90% smaller than that of a comparable office space. We have reduced our energy consumption by 51%.
