The Department of Human Services is a public assistance and child and family welfare agency. It serves the citizens of Michigan. The department directs public assistance and service programs through a network of more than 100 county offices throughout the state. The department provides several child welfare services that include children's protection, foster care, juvenile justice and adoption. The Department of Human Services is also responsible for investigating reports of suspected child abuse and neglect. The department provides assessment, development and coordination of services to more than 90,000 migrant agricultural farm workers and family members. It has an office in Battle Creek, Mich.
