This is undoubtedly the most distinctive and well-known church in Royal Oak with a huge stone crucifix facing Woodward Avenue, its own nearby grade school and high school. The neighborhood behind the church, one of the toniest in Royal Oak, is also known as the Shrine neighborhood. The church was named after Saint Thérèse of Lisieu, a saint known as the little flower. Thousands of people lined the streets to pay homage to her remains when they were displayed at the church in the mid-2000s. The massive church was created through the fund-raising efforts of Father Charles Coughlin, who had a popular radio show.
