One of two high schools in the Birmingham Public School District, Seaholm High School is located off West Lincoln Road, and educates roughly half of Birmingham's 2,600 high school students. Seaholm is consistently considered one of the most highly-regarded schools in the state, with more than 80 percent of its faculty holding advanced degrees, and its students scoring well above state and national averages on the ACT and SAT. Typically, 97 percent of students attend college after graduation. Students follow a trimester schedule at Seaholm, taking 15 clases a year. In addition to taking classes in core academic subjects, students have the option of studying Spanish, French or Chinese, or enrolling in one of 19 AP classes. The school also houses an award-winning Engineering Technology Department, with classes in CAD, Architectural Design and Engineering and Robotics. Students with varying interests may explore career options through the Oakland Schools Techinical Campus (OTEC), or personalize their education through interdiscplinary courses. Non-native students also have the option of taking English as a Second Language. From students publications like The Highlander, to the Youth Action Board, to the unified hockey and ski teams, there are a wide variety of options for Seaholm students looking to get involved. Known as the Seaholm Maples, Seaholm students have brought home state championships in Girls Unified Lacross and Girls Golf, and county championships in Boys Swimming and Diving. Seaholm High School is equpped with a new media center, a 3-court gymnasium, an 8-lane stretch pool, a 900-seat auditorium, a 116-seat theater for lectures and performances, a school store, food labs, language labs and art studios. The school also serves as home for Birmingham Community Education classes, Oakland University, the Japanese School of Detroit and the Oakland ISD Autistic Impaired Program, among others.
