Home of the Owls, North Hill Elementary is one of 13 elementary schools in the Rochester Community Schools district. Principal Michael Behrmann leads the staff of 33 teachers and 40 support staff. The school has half-day kindergarten and offers K-Club (half-day kindergarten enrichment for both am and pm) as well as before and after school care (SAC).
Built in 1955, the school has undergone many renovations through the years, most recently in 2002 when the school received a nearly $7,000,000 rebuild and renovation. North Hill services a major geographic region of the city of Rochester, including neighborhoods near Dinosaur Hill, St. Andrew's Church, and new subdivisions between Letica and Dequindre. The school has a large playground, soccer field, and baseball field.
With an active Parent Teacher Association, the school hosts many family oriented activities including Welcome Back Picnic and Family Fun Night for Halloween. The school participates in the National PTA Reflections Arts Contest, Math Pentathlon, Destination Imagination, Junior Great Books, and Art Smart Program. The school also has a First Lego Robotics Club, Science Fair, and recognized community service group called the North Hill Helpers. For its environmental initiatives, North Hill has earend "Michigan Green School" Status in 2008, 2009, and 2010. North Hill boasts an active Health and Welfare committee that sponsors many initiatives including its organic spring garden project (2009 Salsa Garden and 2010 Pizza Garden).
Recently, North Hill was listed as the 35th top school in the State of Michigan in its "top to bottom" list which rated nearly 3000 schools in the State.
