In the early 1980's, Garry Hoyt, renowned yacht designer, designed a pair of pedal boats - the Waterbug & the Mallard.. Unfortunately, both of these boats were pulled out of production. In 1994, Curt Chambers, a custom injection molder, purchased the toolingy & license to build these boats & transferred all to Muskegon, MI. The focus on making the Mallard more cost effective began including replacing the drive unit by one developed around the rotational molded housing. At that time the rotational molding manufacturing process for small boats was evolving, & it was determined that this could be viable for the Mallard.
