The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation is a private philanthropy aimed at supporting projects promoting a just, equitable and sustainable society. The foundation supports nonprofit programs throughout the United States and internationally. The foundation s civil society program aims to support the establishment of democratic institutions, to strengthen existing communities, to promote social equality and democratic access to resources and to ensure the respect of rights and diversity. The foundation s environment division aims to create institutions, policies and development models that secure environmental quality. The foundation s Pathways out of Poverty division aims to identify, test and help sustain means for low-income people and communities to escape poverty. Established by Charles Stewart Mott in 1926, the foundation holds headquarters in Flint, Michigan with additional offices in Detroit, South Africa and London.
