King's Pizza, Inc. was founded in 1978 by Thomas Griffin and his partner, Richard Dubro. Tom and Rick went to school together and frequently visited Rick's parents cabin up in Cedarville, Michigan. While on one of their many excursions up north, they frequented a little pizzeria called Kings where they had the most incredible tasting pizza. Both Tom and Rick were entrepreneurial types and saw an opportunity when it was presented. They learned the business and bought the recipe from the owners of that tiny little pizzeria, John and Lisa Wagner, and started King's Pizza Inc. in the Detroit area. Their first store was located in St. Clair Shores, Mi in 1978 but had a kitchen fire in 1980 and had to relocate. They purchased a building in Detroit at Seven Mile and Schoenherr and worked it very hard. They also opened another King's Pizza in Roseville. In 1984 Tom and Rick dissolved their partnership. Rick kept the Detroit location which he later sold. Tom kept the Roseville location and late
