Ionia Specialty Clinic
SpecialtiesEarly transfer from a traditional acute care hospital to Sparrow Specialty Hospital drastically reduces the chance for serious long-term setbacks such as muscle atrophy and infections. Sparrow Specialty began in 2004 on Sparrow's St. Lawrence campus in Lansing as a new type of hospital specifically created to offer care for long-term acute care patients. The goal was to provide them a special place where the healing process would be given time and patience. The 36-bed Sparrow Specialty Hospital is the region's first long-term acute care hospital, providing a high level of specialized care over a longer period of time for patients with a wide range of serious illnesses. What makes Sparrow Specialty Hospital unique is that it's not a nursing home or rehabilitation facility. It is designed for patients who need intense, extended care. They may come from a traditional acute care facility, from outpatient centers or directly from home. Our multidisciplinary approach fits patients with multiple medical conditions. Staff members from a broad spectrum of services get involved in the patient's treatment. Our philosophy of jointly providing acute medical care and therapy services over extended periods is better for the patient, providing improved patient outcomes and reduced medical costs overall.
