The Department of Human Services of the state of Michigan is a public assistance, child and family welfare agency. It directs the operations of public assistance and service programs through a network of more than 100 county departments of human service offices throughout the state. The department s programs are jointly funded by the federal and state government. The agency administers the child support collection and client welfare fraud investigation programs. In addition, it provides other services to children, adults and families. The Department of Human Services offers protective, adult placement and home help services for senior citizens. Its family services include referral for employment and training, independent living services providing housing assistance, family planning, counseling, health-related and volunteer services. The agency also provides a range of institutional and noninstitutional social services for the care, training and treatment of neglected and delinquent children. It is located in Sandusky, Mich.
