More than 35 years ago, Carl and Paul Grondin opened their first barbershop in a grain elevator in Dryden, Mich. In 1969, the brothers opened a barbershop in their hometown Dryden, and a shop in Lapeer, Mich., several years later. In 1976, Carl moved to California and joined a franchise company that managed a barbershop at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. In one year, he purchased the salon and became a franchise. As he opened a second franchise in Petaluma, Calif., Paul Grondin, brother Joe and sister Shirley started Grondins. There are salons from Petoskey to Eastpointe, Mich. The company offers family-owned, family-oriented service, senior citizen discount rates and convenient hours. Grondins College of Cosmetology and Grondin s Hair Center arein Lapeer.
