About: Furnace Design Studio, LLC In a cold steel warehouse in Southwest Detroit, Artists Chris Nordin and Michelle Plucinsky founded an amazing company know as Furnace Hot Glass Works. Functional glassware with a 50's theme and Venetian overtones soon became their signature line. Over the years, this studio evolved into one of Metro Detroit's most renowned glass studios, producing work for a worldwide clientele with a focus on highly crafted glass manufacturing. In June 2005, FDS moved into its current 14, 000 square foot facility, which formerly housed a machine shop. Located at 25331 Dearborn it took the company a year and half to renovate the new space and get all the equipment ready for action. The current facility houses a small gallery, grinding room, sandblasting area, metal shop, conference room, and ample space to put together the large projects requested by companies and individuals. Run as a private studio, FDS glass opens it doors 3 times a year for community events ; Michigan Glass Month, Glass Pumpkin Fest, and Holiday Bazaar. Each event draws massive crowds for the rare opportunity to see the inside workings of this companies studio. Donations are made and monies are raised for community charities while everyone comes looking for the chance to BUY LOCAL and support the Arts in metro Detroit.
