Fiber Char Corporation is a privately owned company based in Alpena, Michigan. Fiber Char was founded in 1978 while America was still celebrating it's bi-centennial. During this era, customers were interested in decor items that reflected early American themes. Feeling the demand for such items, Fiber Char began as a manufacturer of brushed and charred wood picture frame moulding and solid pine decorative shelving. As time passed and customer interest changed, Fiber Char expanded plant operations to include moulding and surfacing operations. These additions allowed Fiber Char to keep pace with changing customer interest by offering new moulding lines, dimensional stocks and paneling products. This diversity has resulted in an annual production of over 10 million lineal feet of wood products. Today, Fiber Char's production capabilities include rough lumber, resawing, surfacing, end matching, cutting to length, profiled moulding ( both prefinished & unfinished ), bulk packaging, shrink-wrap packaging and cardboard carton packaging. Fiber Char uses a wide variety of wood species. From large dimensional cut-to-length pieces to small trivet mouldings including tongue & groove plank paneling, flooring, picture frame mouldings ( prefinished & unfinished ). Production capabilities and product offerings are important, but people ultimately make the difference in terms of product quality, service and overall customer satisfaction. Fiber Char's main strength is it's team of associates ; many of whom have been with the company since it's beginning. Over the years, each person has gained experience in multiple areas of Fiber Char's plant operations. This "overlap" of talent fortifies their team effort. As the president of Fiber Char explains, "The person who makes the tooling for the sample may also set up and run the moulder after the order is placed... this team effort allows Fiber Char to quote the project, manufacture the order, and ship the order before others get their sample out of the lab." All of Fiber Char's tooling and sharpening is done "in house", which saves our customer valuable production time. Fiber Char's moulders currently run over 1, 300 profiles on a variety of wood species. Custom matching of requested profiles is a daily routine including the custom mixing of stains and finishes. This allows Fiber Char to match virtually any color and profile requested. An automated finishing system helps assure a high quality product. Fiber Char continues it's new product development by exploring all customer requests and providing a prompt reply on all quote inquiries. To many companies, "continuous improvement" merely expresses a desire. Fiber Char Corporation it is a way of life that is enhanced and directed by the honest insight of our customers. Fiber Char remains committed to the foundation on which it stands. A foundation built on quality, teamwork and long-term customer relationships.
