Founded in 1912, the Detroit Regional Yacht-Racing Association was originally founded to aid local yacht clubs in establishing their summer race calendars. Now a registered nonprofit, the group promotes yachting, boating and competitive amateur sailing. The DRYA serves as a governing body that establishes race rules and handicaps. Twenty six member clubs make up the DRYA, each providing various services to meet the sailing and recreational needs of its membership. Services vary by location, but some include harbors, sailing lessons, junior sail leagues, tennis, fitness centers and more.
