Established in 1996 by the merger of the Department of Public Health, Department of Mental Health and Medical Services Administration, the Michigan Department of Community Health, also known as MCDH, is responsible for the management of various publicly funded health service systems. It develops a range of health policies and offers a range of medical services. The department offers Medicaid health care coverage for people with limited incomes. The Michigan Department of Community Health administers the crime victims rights fund and investigates and processes crime victim compensation. The deaprtment is operated by the State of Michigan, which operates through various departments.
