The American Muslim Center was founded in 2001 by the Foundation for Islamic Heritage, a nonprofit organization serving the needs of Muslims in the Detroit area since 1993. In addition to daily prayers, the center offers Sunday school for children, teaching them the Qu'ran, Arabic and Islamic culture. For adults, there are frequent lectures with guest speakers, as well as family services with the resident Imam. The center also acts as a liaison between the Muslim community and its non-Muslim neighbors to promote greater understanding between cultures.
