Canton-Plymouth Mettetal Airport is used primarily for recreational pilots. Currently 110 airplanes are housed onsite (as of 2009). The airport's total movements (combined take-offs and landings) were 15,592. A $15 ramp fee is charged for commercial landings and an overnight stay costs $5 (waived with fuel purchase). The asphalt runway is 2,303 feet long and 75 feet wide. The airport, founded in 1939, was bought by the State of Michigan's Department of Transportation in 1993. It is open 24 hours day day, seven days a week. Because it's close to Detroit Metro Airport, Canton-Plymouth Mettetal is designated by the FAA as a "reliever airport."
