Retail Automotive: A particular area of expertise is John's more than 28 years experience in representing the interests of automobile dealers. His work with auto dealers includes serving as general counsel to the dealership owners, counseling them on all aspects of their operations, including business planning, acquisition opportunities, factory disputes, employment issues, state, federal and administrative compliance, business contract negotiation, products liability and commercial litigation.

John B. Alfs is a member of Clark Hill's Litigation and Business Practice Groups and concentrates his practice in protecting the interests of business owners. He serves as general counsel to numerous entrepreneurial clients involved in commerce in many markets, including automotive supply, automotive retail, information technology and management, commercial insurance and benefits, as well as commercial construction. Commercial Litigation: John has been trying business disputes since 1986. As lead trial counsel in state and federal courts in Michigan and elsewhere, as well as in numerous arbitration tribunals, John has successfully defended his clients' rights in cases involving contract disputes, premises liability and personal injury claims, products liability, covenants not to compete, and shareholder claims as well as disputes arising from the purchase and sale of businesses. When firm clients' rights have been threatened, John has pursued claims on their behalf for contract breaches, professional liability, supplier disputes and enforcement of restrictive covenants. Particularly sensitive to the risks and costs of litigation to business owners and closely held entities, John proactively counsels firm clients to pursue and defend claims in a manner tailored uniquely to accomplish the required goal.
