History
Rob's creativity and work ethic is backed by a solid marketing and publishing foundation. He got his start at the Boston advertising agency, Cabot, working on accounts like Fidelity Investments, NYNEX and Prime Computer. As design director for Reed Elsevier's national consumer title, SAIL magazine and later, for the Motley Fool, he immersed himself in the publishing end of the design business. In 2001, after relocating to the southern city of Charleston, SC he launched his own design business, Johnson Design which would later become Toprotype, Inc. The company specializes in publication and book cover design with an emphasis on business titles. Local clients in the Bay area include Berrett-Koehler Publishers and North Atlantic Books. Magazine clients include the lifestyle quarterly publications Dallas Style & Design and Charleston Style & Design. My work has been cited for excellence in Print's Design annual and the Bookbinder's Guild of New York.
