A Kingdom Hall is a place of worship used by Jehovah's Witnesses. The term Kingdom Hall was first coined in the mid 1930's and the reasoning was that the buildings would be used for preaching the news of the Kingdom. Witnesses do not use religious symbols on their Kingdom Halls as is the case with the Kingdom Hall found on Wilbur Avenue. Witnesses prefer the term 'Kingdom Hall' over the word 'church' because they note that the term 'church' as translated in the Bible refers to the congregation of people and not the structure. Witnesses typically meet in their Kingdom Halls two days each week for meetings for worship and Bible study. The meetings typically open and close with song and prayer. These meetings can cover Bible readings, family topics, Christian matters and extend to discussions of articles in The Watchtower magazine and other publications of the Jehovah's Witnesses. This Kingdom Hall is also where the Witnesses meet prior to engaging in their door-to-door ministry. Today The Jehovah's Witnesses have some five million followers in many countries of the world.
