Massachusetts State Police is a full-service, community-oriented, statewide law enforcement agency that preserves peace and safety and safeguards civil rights. It supports AMBER Alert, which is an emergency alert system that helps recover abducted children. The police agency operates a crime laboratory that is a forensic science facility and provides various services, such as DNA analysis, fingerprint identification and chemical analysis of various types of evidence. Massachusetts State Police also maintains a police academy that serves as a law enforcement training facility, as well as conducts in-service training and firearms re-qualification for veteran state police officers. It has the State Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), which provides requesting agencies with highly trained field force available on short notice for lost person searches, civil disturbances, special event crowd management and site security. The police agency is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
