For 65 years, there has been a lobster company in this same building on Hingham harbor. The original building opened in the 1950s as O'Connell Lobster and became South Shore Lobster in the 1960s. The lobster shop is located just on the edge of the harbor, where there is not much commercial activity and the estuary keeps the water especially clean. Every lobster that you buy at South Shore Lobster has been sitting either out in the ocean or in a natural mix of fresh and salt water, giving the meat a fresher flavor than what you might get from a supermarket.
It is somewhat difficult to find this location, but if you turn in at Hingham Shipyards and go behind the movie theater, you'll see South Shore Lobster perched on the water. The small shop offers lobster and steamers to customers and also supplies restaurants and retail locations throughout southeastern Massachusetts. Stop by or call ahead to order an ocean-fresh lobster.
