In 1962, after attending Stockbridge School of Agriculture and receiving a degree in Horticulture, John Bordenuk founded the business, with the help of his wife Joan, on the property of the Bordenuk family home set on ten acres of land in the Sixteen Acres section of Springfield. John's parents, John and Nancy Bordenuk, had farmed the land and had a roadside stand where they sold the produce and cut flowers specializing in gladiolas. John's studies and a longstanding family tradition of gardening were to become the inspiration for Sixteen Acres Garden Center, Inc Along the way, John and Joan's children became involved and have contributed substantially to the success of the business. Steve Bordenuk is the General Manager, Debra Bordenuk is the Floral and Gift Shop Manager, and Judy Bordenuk is the Human Resource and Financial Manager. Together, along with a dedicated and hardworking professional staff, they have successfully catered to patrons providing superior quality plants grown in Sixteen Acres Garden Center's own greenhouses, and have provided exceptional customer service that is unmatched in the area.
