The New England Patriots is the National Football League s Massachusetts-based franchise. The organization was established in 1959 when a group of local businessmen, led by former public relations executive William Sullivan Jr., was awarded the American Football League s eighth and final franchise. The team became part of the NFL when it merged with the AFL in 1970. The team has won three Super Bowls 2001, 2003 and 2004 and inducted three players Nick Buoniconti, John Hannah and Mike Haynes into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Its home since 2002 has been the 68,000-capacity Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The organization is owned by Robert Kraft, a paper and packaging products magnate.
