Mystic Valley Regional Charter School, established in 1998, educates students from Melrose, Medford, Everett, Wakefield and Stoneham. Among the ways Mystic Valley differs from traditional public schools are school uniforms, a 200-day school year and a longer school day, from 8am to 3pm. The school has two campuses — a K-8 school on Salem Street and a high school on Highland Avenue. The school holds an annual enrollment lottery each fall. The curriculum focuses on core virtues, civic-oriented values and positive character traits. U.S. News & World Report magazine ranked Mystic Valley the 10th best International Baccalaureate High School in the country, while Newsweek magazine ranked it the 93rd best high school in the nation.
