Presently located in the Saxonville section of Framingham, The McAuliffe Branch library averages about 12,000 visitors a month. The Library Board of Trustees recently announced its intention to re-locate and expand the McAuliffe Library branch. The library branch is named after teacher/astronuant Christa McAuliffe, who lived in the Saxonville section of Framingham. Opened in 1963, the branch library now houses a collection of about 68,000 books and audiovisual items. Other reasons the trustees are interested in moving the branch is that the collection is crammed into high. Also, there are inaccessible shelves and some aisles are not wide enough for wheelchairs. Restrooms are not handicapped accessible either.
