History
In September, 1957 a group of citizens met at the Mattapoisett Public Library to plan for a meeting for anyone interested in establishing an historical society for the town of Mattapoisett. By April of 1958 it was determined that the formation of an historical society was feasible and on May 15, 1958 a meeting was held at Town Hall and the Mattapoisett Historical Society was formally organized. Today the Mattapoisett Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and exploring the heritage of the community and works to provide education to the public. We are commitment to the principle that understanding history is fundamental our future.
