Although the interior looks deceivingly like a bakery — with glass display cases and stainless steel refrigerators — the only cupcake you'll find here is on the apparel. Johnny Cupcakes is the nickname of the owner and artist who first came up with a simple, monochromatic design of a cupcake with crossbones. He originally created the design for himself, but after more and more people asked where they could get their own products, he opened the shop. Years later, he's expanded the design to create a whole line of clothing and accessories.
Products include shirts, sweatshirts, belts, pins, shorts, pants, stickers, notebooks and mugs, and they each have a skater punk vibe with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. Massachusetts is the original home of Johnny Cupcakes, but there is also a store in Los Angeles and one scheduled to open in London. Each store is one-of-a-kind and sells exclusive limited edition items not online, so ask the friendly staff about the latest, hippest item in the store.
