History
IHCDstore is the retail space associated with the Institute for Human Centered Design. The Institute for Human Centered Design (IHCD), founded in Boston in 1978 as Adaptive Environments, is an international non-governmental educational organization (NGO) committed to advancing the role of design in expanding opportunity and enhancing experience for people of all ages and abilities through excellence in design. IHCDstore was developed when IHCD moved to its current location on 200 Portland Street a few years ago. IHCDstore staff are educated about international universal design and offer insight to shoppers about the composite of usability, global design, function and form. Often, staff can recall the background story about the designer or emerging firm. After shoppers are done shopping in the IHCDstore, they can peruse the international suite of universal exhibits that continue through the IHCD space.
