The City of Brockton, established in 1874, is situated in the southeastern part of Massachusetts. It is the largest city in Plymouth County. The city, spread over 21square-miles, has a population of more than 95,000 and functions both as a suburb to Boston and as the central city within the greater Brockton area. The Brockton 21st Century Economic Development Corporation is a private, nonprofit economic development agency formed to maintain Brockton's strong business climate. The city has businesses in the textile and shoe industries. Brockton is home to diverse ethnic, racial and religious communities, and several international cultures, such as Caribbean, Middle Eastern, European, African, South American and Asian.
