"Building value through public spaces." East Somerville Main Streets is a nonprofit partnership of East Somerville residents, local business owners, community leaders, the City of Somerville and the National Main Streets Center. The latter was founded in 1977 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation with the idea of revitalizing business districts to promote the true essence of "downtown America."
ESMS organizes events that bring residents and visitors together. They also strive to promote local businesses new and old. By helping to refocus village centers as the hub of social and economic life in a given area, history is preserved, relationships are formed and an overall greater sense of community pride is fostered.
