Logan International Airport is one of the largest transportation centers in New England. Established in 1923, it is spread across an area of nearly 2,200 acres. The airport maintains a staff of more than 10,000 people, as well as moves over 600 million pounds of cargo, mail and express packages. It features runways, passenger terminals, and concrete and asphalt aprons. Each of the airport s terminals includes ticketing, baggage claim and ground transportation facilities. It also maintains a power plant, fire rescue unit and nondenominational chapel. Logan International Airport provides scheduled and nonscheduled services, as well as operates flights to various destinations throughout the world. It has annual sales revenue of approximately $6 billion. Logan International Airport conducts Fear of Flying and When Kids Fly programs. It serves several airline companies, including AirTran Airways, British Airways and Alitalia.
