William Blackstone Elementary School is a K-5 school attached to the Blackstone Community Center in the South End. Designated as an underperforming school by the state in 2010, Blackstone has undergone dramatic changes, including revamping its curriculum, hiring new teachers and bringing new leadership to the sprawling brick school. Many students at Blackstone Elementary hail from several nearby public housing complexes and more than half are not proficient in English.
