The American Meteorological Society promotes and disseminates information on atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. It develops professional applications, publishes nearly 10 educational journals in print and online and sponsors more than 12 conferences annually. Founded in 1919, its initial 600 members came primarily from the United States Signal Corps and U.S. Weather Bureau. The Society has expanded to more than 11,000 members including professionals, professors, students and weather enthusiasts. It has affiliations with organizations such as American Institute of Physics, Bookbuilders of Boston, Council for Agricultural Science and Technology, Renewable Natural Resources Foundation and Society for Scholarly Publishing. The Society is headquartered in Boston and has an office in Washington D.C.
