The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is a federal agency that is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices and cosmetics. It services include product and manufacturing establishment licensing, ensuring safety of blood supply, conducting research to establish standards and developing improved testing methods. The agency is also responsible for the safety of several radiation-emitting electronic products, including microwave ovens, television receivers, cabinet X-ray systems, ultrasonic therapy equipment, mercury vapor lamps and laser items. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration additionally features tracking reports of device malfunctioning and serious adverse reactions.
