UCAP, also known as United Communities Against Poverty, is a nonprofit organization that serves the homeless individuals and has been operational for more than 30 years. Its Progressive Path Program offers permanent housing and supportive services to persons with disabilities. The program additionally includes mental health, life skills training and case management services. The organization operates a Shepherd s Cove, which provides emergency housing and shelter services to homeless women in crisis. It also offers day care services for infants and preschool children. UCAP offers the First-Time Homebuyers Program, which prepares customers to buy and maintain a home and provides assistance with budgeting, credit and financial analysis, home research, and realtor and lender referrals. Established in 1964, the organization is located in Capitol Heights, Md.
