A true family-run bakery, owner Stella Cawley, along with her brother (pastry chef Yanni Kragiopoulos) and husband (manager George Kouros) has been serving Rockville some of the best European pastries and cakes this side of the Atlantic for over 20 years. The bakery is filled with delicious cakes, tarts, cookies, pastries, breads and imported Swiss chocolates. Stella's thrives on repeat business, with most customers becoming regulars and providing its only advertising. The European tone is evident in the clean, elegant atmosphere of the bakery, dominated by glass and brass pastry cases and shelves of fresh bread, a feeling which spills out onto the sidewalk, with several outdoor patio tables. Stella's dark & white chocolate mousse cake and fruit custard tort are top sellers, while the black forest cake, fresh fruit tarts and apricot and apple strudels are also popular. Coffee, tea, juice and espresso are available, along with croissants, danishes, scones and Tsourekaki (a Greek bread mini-loaf) for breakfast. Custom cakes range from $17 - $190.
