Part of the Bowie community for more than 35 years, St. Edward's is a large Catholic parish with active choirs, a high school youth ministry, several hunger programs and a mobile ministry to the sick, homebound and assisted living facilities.
The parishioners at St. Ed's created Sandwich Sundays, where they make and deliver sandwiches to Martha's Table. Another group provides volunteer meals at the District Heights Men's Shelter. During the holidays, Thanksgiving baskets and a giving tree are created to help serve families in need at local schools.
There are choirs for children, teens and adults, as well as an informal Christmas music band. The youth ministry for high school students meets Sunday nights, and often organizes volunteer outreach opportunities and fun events such as movie and game nights. CCD classes offer younger children the opportunity to learn more about their faith. Occasional seminar series are held (one recently focused on St. Paul), and for those looking to become Catholic, RCIA classes are available as well.
