The Prince George s County Fire/EMS Department is a full-service public safety agency that is responsible for fire suppression and prevention, emergency medical services, fire and rescue communications, the coordination of volunteer fire companies, and research and training. It operates more than 40 community-based fire and rescue stations, various administrative and support facilities and a fire and emergency management services training academy. The Prince George s County Fire/EMS Department employs over 80 nonuniformed staff members who perform fire inspections, maintain its fleet, present educational programs to the community and provide administrative support to its functional areas. With a fire station in Upper Marlboro, Md., the department additionally has nearly 1,100 active volunteer personnel and civilians.
