Lore Oyster House, located in Solomons, MD, is a restored 1934 seafood packing house that has been designated a National Historic Landmark. The exhibits in this historic building explore the entire process of oyster processing, from receiving oysters at the dock to packing and shipping them to markets across the region.
J.C. Lore and Sons, the company behind the oyster house, was one of the largest and most successful seafood packing companies in Southern Maryland. Founded in 1888, the company specialized in packing and shipping fish, crabs, and oysters. However, due to a decline in the local oyster population and the difficulty in recruiting new oyster shuckers, J.C. Lore Sons closed its doors in 1978.
