Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service, also known as MCFRS, works for the protection of residents lives and properties. As a life safety agency, it provides fire rescue, and emergency medical services. The agency serves an area of more than 500 square miles. Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service handles over 100,000 emergency calls annually. It maintains a work force of nearly 1,300 employees. The agency maintains a fire code enforcement section and is a part of Montgomery County Government in Maryland, which administers a police department that provides crime prevention services. Montgomery County Government operates finance, transportation and general services departments.
