The Marcia D. Smith School is a school specialized for children with autism and mental retardation. The school offers educational programs for students ages 16 to 21 years old. The programs focus on developing life skills, functional academics and vocational training. Each student receives individualized instruction according to his or her Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The goal of this school is to enable students to have the most successful transition into adult life in the community possible. Day and residential programs are offered here. The residential program specializes in household skills, personal management skills, proper use of community resources, leisure skills and communication skills. The residence is housed in a townhouse location in the community. Each person gets a private bedroom and all students are supervised by a residential supervisor.
