Literacy Council of Montgomery County offers tutoring programs and English as a second language classes where English is taught as a second language to an estimated 900 adults annually. Other classes include English for daily living and conversation. This is done with individuals meeting with groups of no larger than three students or working one-on-one. There is also computer-based language labs.
LCMC is funded by individual contributors, corporate and foundation grants. Governmental funding comes from the Montgomery County government, Maryland Department of Education, Literacy Works, the U.S. Department of Education and the United Way/Combined Federal Campaign.
ProLiteracy America, the largest volunteer adult literacy organization, ProLiteracy America is also an affiliate. The LC uses ProLiteracy materials, training, and tutoring methods.
The offices are located on the third floor of the Rockville Library at Rockville Town Square. It's within easy walking distance of the Rockville Metro Station on the redline.
