Gap Buster is located at the Center for Educational Partnership, an former school building owned by The University of Maryland that is now the home base for various student programs within the community. According to the center's founder, Dr. Yvette Butler, students attending Gap Buster programs are eager to learn and be successful. The program was initially created to break down any academic achievement gap for African-American and minority students. Since opening in 1999, Gap Buster has become not only a place for students to get extra academic help, but to take advantage of enrichment classes, summer camps and opportunities to travel to foreign countries. Gap Buster recently opened an HIV/AIDS testing clinic. The center also has a location in Montgomery County.
