The Henrietta Lacks Legacy Group (HLLG) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of Henrietta Lacks, an African American woman whose cells, known as the HeLa cells, have made significant contributions to modern medicine. HLLG coordinates various educational activities, including the annual Henrietta Lacks Essay and Video Competition, presents the Annual HLLG Luncheon, and raises funds for a wax figure of Mrs. Lacks for the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum. They also recognize the importance of promoting historic Turner Station, Maryland, where Lacks resided, and co-sponsor the Turner Station Girl Scouts.
The HLLG Annual Luncheon, a virtual event, raises funds for the creation of a wax figure of Henrietta Lacks and the Henrietta Lacks Scholarship Endowment at the Community College of Baltimore County. The luncheon also serves as a platform to honor individuals and organizations for their contributions to the legacy of Henrietta Lacks and Turner Station. The event features a keynote address by Aiyana Rodgers, Mrs. Lacks' great granddaughter. For more information, contact HLLG at Hlackslegacy@gmail.com or Mrs. Carlisa Jones at 443.857.9279.
