Handy is one of the leading and oldest crab processor in the world. Handy International is headquartered on five acres of land on the Chesapeake Bay in Crisfield, Md., with additional processing operations in Asia and South America. The company processes an array of seafood products, including domestic and imported soft crabs, crab cakes, crab meat and salmon cakes. Handy has been in the seafood business since 1903 and began its operations as a tomato and fish processor. The ownership of the company remained with the Handy and Sterling families until it was sold in 1981 to a local businessman who developed the company as a forerunner in the soft shell crab industry. In 1988, Taiyo Oil of Tokyo purchased Handy.
