After three long years away, Ben and Jen Hauser are bringing their nationally-ranked chocolates back to Timonium.
Glarus Chocolatier garnered a devoted following of fans when the Hausers first opened the shop on Aylesbury Road just before Christmas in 2004.
They ran two shops for several years between Timonium and the ever-trendy Harbor East, before ultimately leaving Lutherville in April 2010.
On Feb. 13, 2013 the Hausers came back—just in time for Valentine's Day, traditionally the busiest day of the year for the master chocolatiers.
The shop itself is named after Ben's father's hometown in Switzerland. Ben's father worked in restaurants before opening his own bakery.
Ben, growing up around gourmet, also became a baker and decided to follow in his father's footsteps, with a twist.
“When him and I met I was actually looking to open a bakery so we were both unemployed figuring out what we wanted to do," Jen said. "He was planning more of a chocolate store standalone from what his father does.”
From there it was love at first... bite.
“We just collaborated and decided to do it together,” Jen said. “Within six months of meeting we were engaged and six months after that we opened our business.”
In June, they'll have been married for eight years.
“So we’ve been together almost 10 [years]," Jen said
“Well, December was nine,” Ben added.
“He knows numbers better than I do," Jen said smiling adoringly at her husband.
