Foundation Fighting Blindness, founded in 1971, provides prevention programs and treatments to people suffering from retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, Usher syndrome, and the entire spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases. The foundation has funded several research studies at prominent institutions. It funds research in areas, such as genetics, gene therapy, retinal cell transplantation, artificial retinal implants and pharmaceutical and nutritional therapies. The foundation supports more than 30 voluntary groups throughout the United States who raise funds, increase public awareness and provide support to their communities.
