History
The Family Crisis Center of Prince George's County, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization established in 1981 by three men and two women; Delegate James (Jim) Hubbard, John Rhoads, Howard Stone, Susan Helfrich, and Barbara Miller. These five individuals realized that there was a population of domestic violence victims in Prince George's County that was being both overlooked and underserved. On October 13, 1981 the Family Crisis Center opened its doors at Cora B. Woods Senior Center in Brentwood, Maryland as a place that women and children could go to flee from domestic violence. Years later what began as a small group dedicated to providing services to persons impacted by domestic violence (e.g. emergency shelter) has expanded into an organization providing wrap around services to both survivors and perpetrators of domestic violence.
